Blog Day 2007

Today’s Blog Day, billed as a time to celebrate “discovery of new people and new bloggers.” Here’s the directions if you want to join in.

BlogDay posting instructions:

2. Notify the 5 bloggers that you are recommending them as part of BlogDay 2007
3. Write a short description of the Blogs and place a link to the recommended Blogs
4. Post the BlogDay Post (on August 31st) and
5. Add the BlogDay tag using this link:

One of the great things that happened as a result of the conversations around my Facebook as LMS? posts was that I discovered several new bloggers through comments and links.

Sue Waters at Mobile Technology in TAFE was the top commenter in that discussion with four comments on my post Social Networking as LMS: Problems and Opportunities. She was very honest about the struggles she’s had trying to implement Web 2.0 technologies with her older students, and I really appreciated her persistence in continuing the conversation for several days.

Bob Greenwood at Storyboard Mind gave me some much-needed encouragement to keep pushing and exploring. If nothing else, go read his post about using Skype with his grandson to see some of the power to connect we have with this technology.

Bill Fitzgerald had, frankly, some pretty blunt criticism of the idea of using Facebook. He brought up an excellent point about the intellectual property issues though, and I hadn’t looked into that yet. Besides his site at funnymonkey, Bill introduced me to this great wiki with conversations and perspectives on PLEs.

Wilfred Rubens gave me one of my favorite images from the discussion: blogs as places for “thoughts under construction.” His blog is technology enhanced learning. I expect that if I could read his blog I would find other treasures of phrases, but alas, Dutch is not a language I can read. Maybe some of you readers out there can enjoy his writing though!

Tracy Hamilton at Discovery Through eLearning is someone whose blog I just recently discovered. She’s been writing about her experiences with getting an LMS up and running at her job, as well as providing great summaries of some online forums she attended. If you’re looking for something not related to e-learning, check out her photo blog for a visual break.

  1. Cammy does rock! I switched from commentful to co.mments after you suggested it and think co.mments is working much better for me. I still have to remember to track on every page, but having the full text of the comment in the RSS feed is a huge benefit.

And no worries about not including me on your list. I’m hoping at some point I’ll write something interesting again and you’ll link back to me. It’ll be all good. 🙂 This seemed like a good time to do some “thank yous” to people like you who started commenting here recently. Helping promote new bloggers is a worthy goal too!

  2. Thanks Christy for selecting my blog as one of the 5 new blogs. Regarding my ability at commenting, we both know that it is all thanks to Cammy Bean, who taught me how to use co-mment to effectively managing commenting on other people’s blogs. Cammy rocks!

I have to admit I did seriously think about adding you to my list of 5 blogs, but decided against it as Stephen Downes had shown the light on your blog. Also wanted to shine the light at some new bloggers who are just starting out.

    Sue
