Half an Hour: Kirschner, Sweller, Clark (2006) – Readings
- Stephen Downes’ extensive review of research and resources related to the Kirschner, Sweller, & Clark article criticizing constructivism and other “minimally guided instruction” techniques.

It’s his notes on the paper–basically an outline of the arguments in the paper. Part of what he’s doing is showing the process he uses for analyzing a paper, with both the readings and his summary. The original paper is available if you want to read what Downes is responding to. I think it’s easier to follow if you’ve read the original article.
Downes has promised a write-up of his critique of the paper, which should be posted soon. That should be more of a finalized writing with paragraphs and such instead of bullet points. No guarantees that it will be much easier to read though; Downes’ writing is often a challenge.
Christy, this is probably a silly question, but is Downes post on the deconstruction of an academic paper his notes or is it the paper itself? I found his post difficult to read.
